Goodbye JUNEuary 2012...

As we kiss January 2012 farewell, how are those New Year's Resolutioners out there doing? I  know that the crowd at my YMCA seems to be thinning out a bit, so I'm going to assume that so far we have mixed results. As of today,  I'm pretty spot-on with my New Year's Resolutions. Well, I really didn't have any hard and fast resolutions since I view fitness and being healthy as a way of life, not a once a year decision that I hope sticks....this time. This year I did make a few promises to myself, though, as the clock struck midnight on this day, exactly one month ago. The vow that has proven to be the easiest was the one I truly thought would be the most difficult: Have Only One Frou-Frou Coffee Drink Per Week From Starbucks (or any like-minded alternative). My plan to stick to this promise was to only visit Starbucks one time on the weekend and order until my heart is content. So far, I am happy to report, I have partaken in just TWO super sugary sweet coffee concoctions this month! Not only has this saved me scads of wasted calories, but it's also saved me some serious cash! Bonus!

For my second vow I promised myself that I would run at least 100 miles this month and would try to better my total from January 2011. As soon as I squeeze in my run this afternoon, I will have run about 115 miles this month, accomplishing both of those goals. I will admit, the unusually warm weather we've had for what I am dubbing "JUNEuary" 2012 certainly helped me achieve that goal as I am unsure if I would have had the guts to get out, with no real training plan or goal-race, had the weather been less than stellar. I'd like to THINK I could have, but I'm not going to lie. It's been tough finding my motivation this month. Even so, I crossed the century mark and I'm going to be happy about it.

As the sun sets on month one of a year full of opportunity, are you looking back with enthusiasm at what you've been able to accomplish? If not, luck is with you! There are eleven more sunrises on months left to follow, and each day of every month is a new start. Stop lamenting those lost opportunities and hitch your wagon to the opportunity that lies ahead...starting now!
